There are eight Whillans clusters as yet unconnected to the Main Whillans group:
The 'M group' lived at Hawick Roxburghshire and nearby Cavers, and some appear to have migrated to Middlesex near London. Cuthbert Whillace and Bessie Glendinen had two sons John & Walter who produced ten grandchildren to Cuthbert & Bessie over 1690 to 1712. This group surprisingly has only 125 named descendants which suggests further research is warranted.
The 'W group' lived at Morebattle Roxburghshire. William Fillins of Morebattle had two sons William c1768 and Samuel c1771, and two hyp daughters Margaret c~1766 & Janet c1779. This group has 200 named descendants, primarily descended from William c1768.
The 'K group' originated in Kirktown & Hobkirk Roxburghshire from John who married Margaret Scott, producing at least six children, John b1769 to Archibald b~1779. This group has 230 named descendants, primarily descended from Archibald. There is a strong hypothesis that this Whillans K group is part of the Wealleans Z group.
The 'F group' originated in Bedrule Roxburghshire, from John Whillans and Alison Muir. Nearly all of the 335 named descendants derive from their son James b1794.
The 'H group' originated in Hawick Roxburghshire from George Willan b~1760 & Martha Burton. This group has strong marriage connections with the Stevenson and Turnbull families. The horse-racing family in Hawick is listed amongst its 175 named descendants.
The 'C group' spent some considerable time in Fifeshire (a county N of Edinburgh), firstly at Kilconquhar during 1827-1835, then at Cupar from 1838. The progenitor was Jedburgh joiner William Whillans who had two known children Thomas b~1804 & Janet b1807. Nearly all of the 165 named descendants derive from his son.
The 'Q group' migrated from Mertoun near the Roxburghshire-Berwickshire border to Valcartier in Quebec Canada. It is hypothesised that James Whillans firstly married Jean Riddel (in 1763 at Maxton Roxburghshire) and then Katharine Thin (in 1788), fathering children for many years from 1770 to perhaps ca1820, and giving most of the 230 named descendants. 8 The 'V group' commenced with William Whellans and Janet Vair whose son James (b~1824 in Kelso) raised three sons (John, Alexander, Andrew/Adam; b1846-1852). There are 22 named descendants.
